How long does it take for an application to be approved?

  • The application process usually takes 2-4 weeks. You can speed up this process in 2 ways: 1- by having all partners apply and be prepared for an introductory call. 2- at the time of your application, have a location address and a prime location, approved for an ice cream shop by the landlord or property management company.


What is the recommended square footage for brick & mortar location?

  • 800-1500 SF is recommended.
  • The corporate location in Salt Lake City is 1750 SF and is a bigger space than what is recommended.

 

What is a typical timeline for buildout of a location?

  • Mobile trailer: 4-8 weeks
  • Brick & mortar location: 6-12 weeks
  • Once a location is secured and the construction permit has been issued, construction usually takes 8-10 weeks but may vary by depending on location build requirements and store size
  • Both mobile trailer and brick & mortar locations can be delivered fully turn-key and ready for you to begin operating
  • Actual timelines depend on city/county permitting processes, site size, location, and condition

 

What are the average costs for owning a Spilled Milk franchise?

  • The basic franchise costs are:
    • Franchise fee: $25,000
    • Build out costs range for each type of build out -
    • Mobile trailer ranges from: $50,000-65,000
    • Brick & mortar ranges from: $100,000-250,000 (actual costs depend on site size, location, and condition)
    • Royalty fee: 6% of gross sales weekly
    • Marketing fee: 3% of gross sales weekly
    • Location reservation fee (if doing multi-unit agreement): $5,000 per location

 

Do you franchise internationally?

  • Yes, we are open to expanding into new countries and markets. Please fill out the application to ask about your preferred location.

 

Do I need experience with franchising or within the Ice Cream/Dessert industry?

  • No. You must have a genuine desire to serve other people and bring a smile to our customers faces. Success in our business also requires management and people development skills.

 

What qualities do I need to own and operate a Spilled Milk franchise?

  • A positive attitude
  • A love for ice cream and cereal
  • Good character
  • Good credit
  • The appropriate amount of capital required to open your location
  • A desire to serve customers and put a smile on their faces

Does Spilled Milk provide training for franchisees?

  • Spilled Milk is committed to providing intensive classroom and hands on training to our franchisees and their managers. This is done in-person at Spilled Milk’s headquarters in Salk Lake City, UT. Franchisee training will include but not be limited to, aspects of store management; all aspects of product preparation and serving; merchandising; local advertising and promotion; public relations; all staffing and human resource issues; the point of sale system; franchisee accounting and reporting.

 

Who pays for this training?

  • Training and all course material is provided to you as part of your franchise purchase. You will be responsible for travel and accommodation during the time you are attending the training, if applicable.

 

Can I sell my franchise?

  • Yes. You own your franchise business and can sell or transfer it. Spilled Milk Franchising will have the first right of refusal to buy it from you and if we waive that right, we need to approve the purchaser to ensure that they will operate the franchise at least as well as you did.

 

Are there standard operating procedures in place? How do I endure I am operating properly?

  • We will provide all appropriate manuals to you as part of your franchise purchase. Consistency in product offering, store design and customer service are essential to the success of all franchisees. All franchisees receive the same training and the same set of operating manuals.

 

Is there a guaranteed return on investment with a Spilled Milk Franchise?

  • Spilled Milk Ice Cream & Cereal Bar does not guarantee a return on your investment. Just as nothing in life is guaranteed. It is your personal effort and commitment, together with our vision, support and expertise, that will maximize your chances of being successful and enjoying the process.

 

Where do I get all of my equipment and inventory?

  • Everything is purchased from designated vendors. Spilled Milk has negotiated the best pricing available for the volumes that the entire franchised network is doing with that vendor.

 

How much money will I make with my Spilled Milk location?

  • We can’t tell you how much money you will make. The money you make depends on a several variables. We will share our experience on HOW you can make money with your Spilled Milk franchise.
